Choosing a Dental Restoration
There are three common methods for replacing missing teeth - a fixed bridge, a dental implant, or a removable appliance. This section provides information about the most universal and affordable restoration known as the removable partial denture or RPD.
If you're like most patients, you may not realize that removable partial dentures are fabricated by a dental laboratory outside the dentist's office. In fact, many patients never ask about the steps required in making a partial framework. Like any medical procedure, you should be involved in the decision-making process. Taking an active role in your healthcare is the best way to ensure that your treatment includes the best and safest restoration available.
Not all partial dentures are the same. To ensure you're making the right decision about which RPD to use, you need to know your options.

What are the differences between an RPD and a dental implant?
A partial denture is a removable appliance that replaces your missing teeth. The removable partial is made of a metal framework -- the foundation of the appliance. Pink acrylic anchors itself into the framework and holds the denture teeth in place in the saddle areas where teeth are missing. The appliance is secured in place by metal clasps that anchor themselves around your remaining teeth. When designed correctly, both function and retention will restore your smile and confidence. Your new removable partial will typically be ready in two weeks from your first appointment.
Some restorative options may include the use of dental implants. Implant restored restorations require a root form implant to be placed in the upper or lower jaw bones. This placement is usually preformed by an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist. Your general dentist will design the restorative appliance that will either be fixed to the implants permanently or be removable. Most implants take six to seven months for them to bond to the bone before they can be used for chewing. A temporary appliance is used during this healing process. It is always suggested that you check your insurance plan to see what your coverage is before starting your treatment.
Are all removable partials the same?
No. Removable partial dentures are similar, but they are not the same. There are several different partial denture systems in the dental market. Only BEGO's Wironium Chrome Cobalt alloy system offers the most state-of-the-art procedure for making secure, lightweight, and comfortable removable partials. This is possible due to advanced nitrogen enriched alloy formals which allow the metal frameworks to be thinner yet maintain their strength. Thinner frameworks are more comfortable and allow the patient to have improved speech and aesthetics for a beautiful smile. The other products in the Wironium family create extremely actuate fits which normally need no or very little adjustment at chairside with your dentist. Wironium is the number #1 choice of dentists around the world.
What is Wironium?
Wironium is a Chrome/Cobalt alloy that is offered exclusively by BEGO and frameworks produced by IWC Wironium licensed dental laboratories. IWC laboratories are required to use the total Wironium system and attend on-going educational training on the creation of partial denture frameworks using the BEGO products. Wironium's physical properties allow the frameworks to be made thinner but yet maintain their strengthen. These properties allow the patient to wear a Wironium partial without the fear of it dislodging or breaking.
Is Wironium safe?
Absolutely. Wironium is the only RPD material to carry BioCertificate certification, meaning that it has been declared free of unsafe materials by independent auditors. When your RPD is made with Wironium, you can feel confident that you're getting the highest quality, safest metal available.
How do I know if my dentist uses Wironium RPDs?
You may not and your dentist may not tell you - not all patients take an active role in their healthcare. You should ask your dentist what RPD brand they're planning to use for you.
What if my dentist doesn't offer BEGO removable partials?
It's easy for your dentist to learn more information about Wironium by contacting BEGO USA at 1-800-342-2346 or via email. BEGO can provide your doctor clinical information and a list of authorized Wironium laboratories that can assist in making a quality removable partial denture for you.
